What is a Memorial Reef?
A Memorial Reef is a living memorial with a hollow egg-like shape, constructed with a special pH-balanced concrete and is placed in one of our Undersea Memorial Gardens.
Cremated remains of your loved one may be incorporated into the structure. A Memorial Reef has a custom marine-grade bronze plaque and GPS coordinates which will ensure it is easily found on future visits.
Why is it an alternative?
Every day more people choose cremation for financial or environmental reasons, resulting in nearly 50% of all deaths ending in cremation every year.
While traditional funerals provide an undeniable source of comfort and peace of mind to many experiencing loss, we believe that even greater peace of mind can be attained through allowing our physical bodies to participate in the cyclical nature of death.
Why choose a Reef Ball Memorial?
Our world’s coral reefs are dying. Rising ocean temperatures are causing catastrophic mass bleaching events that threaten our reefs and biodiversity.
You can make a difference by choosing an Undersea Memorial that will grow coral on its surface, replenish fish stocks, and mitigate tidal events. Your memorial will also contribute to countless communities that rely on these reefs to provide food for subsistence and economic growth.
